A Variety of Wildlife Areas
The premier event will showcase the beautiful and abundant bird life, natural habitat, and history of Louisiana's Feliciana Parishes. The festival promises a wide array of birding field trips into spectacular wildlife areas and privately owned properties. Over 175 species of birds are known to reside or migrate through the area. John James Audubon, the festival's namesake, is known to have painted up to 80 of his artworks contained in the “Birds of North America” portfolio here. Held in July. more

Occurring every Sunday in October, the Angola Rodeo is the longest running prison rodeo in the United States. A professionally produced rodeo, the Angola Rodeo also features inmate arts and crafts, food, and entertainment. Proceeds from the Angola Prison Rodeo cover rodeo costs and helps the Louisiana State Penitentiary Inmate Welfare Fund which provides for inmate educational and recreational supplies. Held annually the third weekend in March, the Audubon Pilgrimage features Oakley House, Rosedown Plantation, Afton Villa Gardens, private homes, 19th century churches and more. The Pilgrimage is dedicated to the memory of John James Audubon, who set himself the task of painting all the birds in America. Audubon painted no less than 80 of his famous folios here. Oakley, where Audubon came to tutor Eliza Pirrie in 1821, is the centerpiece of the Audubon State Historic Site. The West Feliciana Historical Society stages the Pilgrimage to share with visitors the history of Audubon's Happy Land. Held in March. more
